• Excellent pub with much to offer

  The Blue Bell at Whaplode St Catherine is a small pub with much to offer.It doesn't look much from the outside although there is a large car-park and overflow meaning that no-one will have to park onside the road.The bar area can also be a little crowded but the atmospeher is generally warm and friendly as is so often the case with traditional old fashioned type pubs such as this.However there are two things which make the pub stand out. First for real ale drinkers the pub has it's own micro-brewery serving 2 or 3 regular ales plus a few specials from time to time. These are excellent and I would particularly recommend the "Old Honesty" brew.The landlord is friendly and helpful and the Ble Bell is ideal for small and large parties alike.The other big area in which the pub has improved is it's food. Whereas once the pub did fairly standard "pub-grub" undfer it's present ownership it has diversified and now provides an extensive menu full of interesting dishes and also a specials board. There should be something for everyone and the quality is excellent.The dining room has been tastefully extended and it now makes for a very pleasant dining experience with plenty of space and views out onto the garden behind.Prices are about average for pub food and there is also a themed "eat as much as you want" buffet - Chinese, indian depending on the week, which takes place on Friday evenings, Best to ring for details. This makes for good value as it also includes full access to the salad bar as a starter.Overall I would highly recommend this pub.
